We’re having a very warm Spring here in Southern California. It’s only May and it already feels like Summer. To beat the heat, both external and internal, try drinking refreshing delicious and healthy Hibiscus tea.

Hibiscus tea has many health benefits:

1. Lowers LDL Cholesterol

2. Lowers Blood Pressure

3. High in antioxidants

4. Regulates digestion

Here is a simple recipe for cold brewed Hibiscus tea:
(Makes 1 quart)

  • 1/2 cup dried hibiscus flowers (about 1/2 ounce or 15 grams)
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 4 cups cold water
  • Lime wedges (optional, for serving)

Place the hibiscus and cinnamon stick in a large jar or bowl. Add water. Cover and refrigerate overnight (8 to 12 hours). Strain out the solids and serve with a squeeze of lime, if desired. Try sweetening tea with 1 part apple juice to 4 parts tea.
Store the brewed tea covered in the refrigerator for up to one week.
